Major recycler upgrades operations with 24-t material handler

Pizzorno Environnement, a specialist in the collection, sorting and recycling of industrial and household waste, has upgraded its operational capabilities with the addition of a new material handler from Develon.
The France-based company, which operates internationally from its headquarters in Draguignan, has invested in a 24.5-tonne DX230WMH-7 model with a 6-metre straight boom and a 4.2-m straight arm.
The DX230WMH-7 also boasts an elevating cab that can be raised by 2.5 m to reach a floor height of 3.7 m in the raised position.
“The operator can adjust the height of the cab without leaving their seat,” said Develon, adding that from the inside of the cab “the operator can access the video feed from the side and rear cameras on a screen. They can also monitor vital machine information.”
Pizzorno’s new machine - the first Develon DX230WMH-7 material handler to be sold in Europe - was recently deployed at Pizzorno Environnement’s sorting and recovery centre in Le Muy, where it is already in operation for 13 hours a day, six days a week.
Located to the north of Saint-Tropez, the Le Muy site is believed to be one of the largest and most modern facilities of its kind in the country, receiving nearly 120,000 t of recyclable waste, including wood and ferrous and non-ferrous metals, every year.
Jean-Charles Devalle, Director of the General Affairs division of Groupe Pizzorno Environnement, said: “This material handler is used for sorting and reloading waste into our customers’ semi-trailers.
“We previously had a 20 tonne machine that was at the end of its life cycle. We chose a larger 24.5 tonne machine to improve our productivity. And our choice fell on the DX230WMH-7, which met our specifications.
Jean-Charles added: “We wanted an elevated, soundproof cab. We also wanted high-performance telematics for maintenance, so that we could closely monitor the machine, as it is used by several operators.”
Pizzorno’s material handler includes the Develon’s Fleet Management TMS 3.0 cellurar telematic system, which provides owners, dealers and the manufacturer with geolocation information as well as complete operational data for the machine, via computer or smartphone.
“Even if it’s still too early to assess the machine’s productivity gains, we’re satisfied with it,” said Jean-Charles.
