Sharp Skips upgrades recycling plant

Waste management company Sharp Skips has upgraded its Kiverco recycling plant with the addition of a new two-way separator.

Sharp Skips' Kiverco recycling plant Sharp Skips’ new Kiverco separator means the company can now process up to 50 tonnes of C&D waste per hour.

The UK company, which operates across London, Essex and Kent, provides skip hire, waste collection services and recycled aggregates to both large and small general construction and demolition customers.

Sharp Skips new separator will not only allow it to meet the rising demand for construction and demolition waste processing services, but will also help futureproof the business for future growth.

Terry Sharp, managing director of Sharp Brothers (Skips), said, “As our company grows, we want to invest in our plant to ensure that we have the very best waste processing capability to ensure high levels of throughput and purity.”

“We decided to add to the functionality of our current plant with a new two-way separator which will increase throughput, reduce operational costs and produce cleaner products.”

Sharp Skips' Kiverco recycling plant in Essex The Kiverco recycling plant was first installed in 2018.

A former waste services provider to the UK’s Olympic Village and a number of Crossrail projects, Sharp Skips currently gets through around 250 t of C&D waste a day and the new two-way separator takes the processing capacity of its recycling plant up to 50 t/hr.

Sharp Skips’ recycling plant, which was installed by Kiverco in June 2018, originally featured an 820 trommel, a KDS 1500 air density separator, together with an overband magnet and associated conveyors.

It also incorporated a Steinert electro magnet, extra high stockpiling bays, Spaleck screening technology and extra wide working platform for PVC and non-ferrous segregation.

Over the past 12 months Sharp Skips - a family run firm for almost 40 years - has invested almost £1 million (US$1.4 million) in new machinery and vehicles.

The company has also been awarded FORS Silver accreditation for good practice and achieved ISO 14001 environmental management accreditation.
