‘Challenging but successful’ – Edge MD looks back at 2021

Edge Innovate managing director Darragh Cullen has hailed 2021 as a success despite it being one of the company’s “most challenging years”.

The Northern-Ireland based recycling equipment manufacturer was affected by components shortages during the past 12 months – but it says it will introduce three new products this month and invest in expanded cutting and welding facilities later this year.

“Component shortages have wreaked havoc with our scheduling,” said Darragh.

“At times, we have had to rejig our product schedule to keep our assembly lines efficient. Nevertheless, thanks to a huge effort by our team we have managed to surpass our targets.”

“After completing our new paint and prep shop and stores last year, 2022 will see further infrastructure investment in terms of an expansion of our cutting and welding facilities. Further investment in equipment is planned as we enforce [the wireless connectivity-based manufacturing systems] Automation and Industry 4.0.”

The new products – which are being introduced at a trade show in Austin, USA – are the FTS (Feeder Track Stacker) Radial, the TRT620 Trommel and the TRM831, the company’s biggest trommel to date.

Commenting on the company’s decision during 2021 to introduce a four-day week to help the work-life balance of employees, Darragh said: “Overall, this has been a hugely successful strategy and our operational efficiencies have increased.”
