02 December 2009
A new Hitachi Z250W wheeled waste handler is providing increased handling capabilities at Resag Recycler und Sortierwerk's Bern waste transfer station, and is one of the first in Europe of its type.
The Z250 weighs in at 28.9 tonnes (63,580 lb) when equipped with a 7.5 m boom (24.6 ft), 6,250 kg (13,750 lb) counterweight and solid tyres, and has a maximum reach of 12.6 m (41.4 ft) and a maximum working height of 14.3 m (46.9 ft). It features a specially designed undercarriage that has been designed specifically for the arduous conditions that can be experienced in materials handling applications, with an increase in sectional area for higher strength and durability.
A hydraulically elevating cab that lifts the operator from 3.3 m (10.8 ft) to 5.8 m (19 ft) ensures a clear view during all waste handling operations. Power comes from an Isuzu AI-4HK1X diesel that delivers 122 kW (164 hp) and is fully certified to EU Stage IIIA/EPA Tier 3.
Hitachi also offer a larger waste handler in the shape of the Zaxis ZX360W-3 that weighs in at 16.8 tonnes (80,960 lb) and offers a maximum reach of 16 m (52.5 ft) and a maximum working height of 17 m (55.8 ft).
