Hyundai steps up to task at Blackpool Zoo

08 February 2017

There’s a new view at the zoo in Blackpool, United Kingdom, after one of the former aircraft hangars on the site was demolished by Manchester-based MCW Plant using a new ‘jumbo’ 30 t Hyundai HX300 L fitted with a Daemo DMS250 shear.

Clearing the debris from the pulled down hangar is a new 12.5 t Hyundai R125LCR-9A, fitted with a Daemo DMC140 pulveriser. Both machines were supplied by Hyundai dealer HES Enterprises, also based in Manchester.

The hangar building, adjacent to the main entrance building and Playbarn, was demolished after a safety inspection deemed it unsafe. MCW Plant, owned and run by managing director, Mark Watson, won the contract.

Part of the zoo, including the main entrance building, is made up of former hangars dating back to the site’s use as an airfield. The hangar which has been demolished was not in public use and plans are not currently in place to build a new structure on the plot.

Mark Watson said: “The Hyundai machines are very robust and ultra-reliable. We also have in our fleet a R16-9 mini with breaker and grapple. This machine will do the work of four men on strip out jobs. It’s a great little machine, it never stops.

“Our HX300 is very powerful - even when operating in eco mode, and the fuel-efficiency is second to none, which is a major concern these days, with fuel costs rising.”

For the past two-years MCW Plant has been the principal contractor on a number of high profile demolition projects working both with local authorities and customers in the private commercial sector.

“We firmly believe that you are only as good as your last job, this is why we have invested heavily in all new Hyundai equipment and vehicles, in addition to our plant and machinery,” said Mark.

“We have also invested heavily in staff training.”
