With Covid-19 continuing to cast its shadow across the world, it has been another challenging year for the industry.
However, there has still been plenty of activity as stakeholders continue to adjust to a new normal and carry out business as usual.
We look back at some of the biggest and best stories from throughout the year…
1 – Howden buys Spencer Turbine, CPI
Howden went on a shopping spree, recently making its fifth and sixth acquisition of 2021. Its latest acquisition, Compressor Products International, was from EnPro Industries (NYSE: NPO) and strengthens its foothold in the aftermarket components and services sector to the reciprocating compressor market, the company said.
2- Atlas Copco buys CPC Pumps International
Atlas Copco has acquired CPC Pumps International Inc., a company that specializes in the design, manufacturing and servicing of custom-engineered, mission-critical centrifugal pumps.
Sundyne's India office will provide support to the firm's other headquarters around the world.
3 – Sundyne expands India office
Sundyne has expanded its office in India. The office was initially established to serve local opportunities and to provide engineering support for the company’s headquarters in Arvada, USA and its operations in Dijon France, HMD-UK and Marelli-Spain.
4 – Cummins upgrades engines for gas compression
Cummins Inc. announced the availability of two gas compression engines that incorporate new Murphy control systems.
5 – MHI awarded turbomachinery order for LNG export plant
Linde Engineering awarded Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) a contract to supply the main refrigeration gas compression trains for the UST-Luga LNG project in Russia. The order consists of four highly efficient dual shaft 120 MW H-100 gas turbines and 10 centrifugal compressors.

6 – Howden to provide green hydrogen compressor
Johnson Matthey has hired Howden to build a hydrogen compressor for the world’s first methanol plant to harness energy from the wind in Patagonia, Chile.
7 – Chart Industries acquires L.A. Turbine
Chart Industries acquired L.A. Turbine for $80 million in cash.
8 – Cooper buys TrueRock Holdings
Cooper Machinery Services, a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management, has bought TrueRock Holdings, a division of FlatRock Compression.
9 – Baker Hughes buys stake in low carbon H2 company
Baker Hughes bought about 20% of Ekona Power, Vancouver-based a growth company developing turquoise hydrogen production technologies. The acquisition value and the exact size of the stake in Ekona were not disclosed.
10 – Burckhardt to deliver process gas compressors to South Korea
Burckhardt Compression will deliver three Process Gas Compressor API618 systems to compress hydrogen at a liquefaction plant in South Korea. The new installation in South Korea is the largest hydrogen liquefication plant worldwide and is part of the country’s strategy to develop hydrogen as a clean energy.
