Volvo CE introduces new generation of high reach excavators
05 November 2024
Volvo Construction Equipment has replaced the EC380EHR and EC480EHR models with the new EC400 high reach and EC500 high reach excavators.
Volvo CE says that the new machines offer a 15% improvement in fuel efficiency due to optimised engine pump performance, better ground-level access, longer service intervals, more precise controls, and a quieter working environment.
Additionally, the Smart View feature, with optional Obstacle Detection, is said to enhance safety for both operators and onsite workers.
The excavators also feature an extended working range facilitated by a new extension boom concept, providing greater versatility for various tasks.
The hydraulic lines have been fine-tuned for demolition; the X1 return line has been enlarged to reduce back pressure on the attachment, and a dedicated drain line has been added to improve oil leak rates from the rotating motor-attachment.
The Demolition Assist tool provides visual and audible alerts regarding working range and stability for demolition tasks, while an HD integrated front view camera display enhances productivity and operator comfort. With Demolition Assist, Volvo CE highlights that the machine is equipped for potential new functionalities that decommissioning customers may require in the future.
Furthermore, the purpose-built cab is designed to offer optimal visibility, which is crucial for high-reach demolition work. The scratch-resistant, one-piece front window, classified as P5A, and the reinforced roof window can be easily cleaned, featuring an optimised wiper system.
Ergonomic improvements have also been made, including increased functionality in the control levers, an optional Comfort Drive Control, a tilting function for the cab, and various smart switches.
Martijn Donkersloot, product manager for demolition equipment at Volvo CE, said, “We are committed to producing the ultimate heavy-duty demolition machinery. These new models are designed to efficiently address customer needs, based on our discussions with operators around the world. As we manufacture our own machines from start to finish, every detail has been meticulously considered and improved to ensure the best possible performance.”
