Once completed, the SuedOstLink will help transport electricity generated from renewable energy sources in the country’s northern and eastern regions to its south.

The company says that SuedOstLink will expand the country’s electricity network through a high-voltage direct current transmission line (HVDC) with a transmission capacity of 2*2 gigawatts.

Several converter stations along the planned direct current (DC) underground cable line will also seek to improve the capacity to transport energy across southern Germany.

Turner & Townsend’s team will lead various aspects of the project management during the SuedOstLink’s construction phase in Bavaria, as well as being responsible for performance management, project control, document management, scheduling and control, risk management, quality management and claim prevention.

Tom Krumpholz, Director at Turner & Townsend, said, “The ambition of TenneT’s SuedOstLink matches the challenge of delivering on the low-carbon energy transformation for Bavaria and wider Germany. Our team takes a rigorous, outcomes-based approach to major project delivery and we will be working side by side with TenneT and the wider supply chain to ensure SuedOstLink provides safe, environmentally friendly, and affordable electricity to the region.”
