Spross boosts investment in safe waste sorting

Switzerland-based family business, Spross Transport & Recycling has invested in ZenRobotics robot technologies for the second time this year as it aims to recover more valuable fractions at the Spross Recyclingwerk Zurich RWZ site, which processes 180,000 t of construction and other waste.

Spross provides recycled waste across Switzerland and had already doubled its number of robot arms to sort fractions at 4,000 picks an hour.

Having started working with ZenRobotics in 2019 with an aim to increase the efficiency of itswaste recycling, it will now treble the number of Heavy Picker robot arms at its RWZ facility to have more fractions sorted at up to 6,000 picks per hour – allowing it to earn more from valuable fractions or reduce the cost of elimination.

So far, the robot has been recovering mainly concrete and stone for concrete production, as well as wood, plastics and some metals.

ZenRobotics said new materials can be added to the robots’ Artificial Intelligence with ease, so that they can also be picked and sorted safely and therefore minimise any risk towards the team at Spross.
