Liebherr reveals ISRI 2024 equipment lineup
19 February 2024
Construction equipment giant Liebherr has revealed which of its machines will be on show at the 2024 ISRI Convention & Expo.
The manufacturer’s earthmoving and material handling technology team is set to present both its LH 40 M Industry material handler and its L 550 XPower wheeled loader.
The specialised LH 40 M Industry model is a 38-tonne (85,000-lb) is fitted machine with a Tier 4 Final engine and has maximum reach of 14 m (47 ft).
“Performance is extremely important in handling scrap materials,” said Liebherr. “Whether sorting out mixed scrap material, loading and unloading HGVs and ships or loading shredders, shears and press plants, the Liebherr material handling machines are designed for the highest performance in a variety of work applications.”
According to the OEM, the material handler features its patented ERC system for energy recovery. The system ensures the machine is always operating at its maximum handling capacity, while using lowest amount of fuel overall.
Liebherr says this means the LH 40 M Industry material handler is not only more powerful than previous models, but that it also delivers faster cycle times.
Similarly, the generation 6 Liebherr L 550 XPower wheeled loader has an operating weight of almost 18.5 t (41,000 lb) and its 4-cylinder diesel engine offers 163 kW (219 hp) of power.
Described as “versatile and universally deployable”, the loader has a standard bucket capacity of 4.5 cu yd (3.4 cu m) and is available with application-specific attachments.
The XPower wheeled loader also comes with either industrial and standard z-bar kinematics. This means that while the industrial lift arms have parallel movement that provides high torque in the upper lift arm range, the standard z-bar kinematics provides high torque in the lower lift arm range.
Visitors to the company’s booth (B8) at the ISRI (Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries) Convention & Expo, which will take place from the 15 to 18 April in Las Vegas, 2024, will also get to see the manufacturer’s R 922 Powerhand crawler excavator.
The R 922 crawler excavator is a generation 8 machine that has been completely redesigned to provide more comfort for operators and greater performance.
Unlike the previous generation of machines, the new R 922 includes Liebherr’s Powerhand VRS (Vehicle Recovery System) 200 and comes preprogrammed with both unit control and clamp functions now operated via the joystick, rather than by the foot pedals, for easier use.
With an operating weight of up to 23 t (50,930 lb) and a digging depth of 6.7 m (22 ft 2 in), the excavator, Liebherr says the model meets the performance and reliability “demands and specifications” of companies in the scrap metal recycling industry.
