HIllhead 2010 preview

With just short of 20000 visitors at the last event in 2007, the Hillhead show is aimed squarely at the mining and quarrying industries but also attracts visitors from the recycling, demolition and general construction sectors. So while the focus is on equipment for the extraction industries, machines for the wider sector, including concrete, road building and engines, will also be on show.

Northern Ireland based Maximus Crushing and Screening will use the show as the venue for its official launch onto the market. The new player will exhibit its 35 tonne Maximus 516 mobile screen alongside a second, yet to be disclosed, model.

Maximus was founded two years ago and has been quietly developing its product range and dealer network ever since. The company now has a small number of dealers around Europe and interest is growing in other parts of the world.

Terex's Powerscreen will use the working demonstration area to show its Pegson XA750 jaw crusher feeding a giant Pegson 1500 Maxtrak cone crusher. Alongside the crushers will be the company's Warrior 2400 screen.

On its static stand, Powerscreen will show its Pegson XH320 and XH500 impact crushers, a Warrior 800 screen and Aggwash, a mobile washing plant that combines rinsing, screening and scrubbing on a single transportable chassis. The company will also exhibit a range of its more established models.

Aggregate Processing Solutions, the specialist washing arm of the Finlay Group, will use Hillhead to launch its APS-100AT after almost five years of research and development. Billed by the company as 'the contractor's dream', this is a unique, multi-component material washing system developed for the quarrying, recycling and remediation industries.

Central to its design is a linear multi-deck screen equipped with what the company calls 'Atri-Jet' technology, a directional and adjustable water pressure injection system to help remove fines.

Blue Group, the UK distributor for Powerscreen, Telestack and Doppstadt, will have a number of recycling systems on show. From Powerscreen will come the new Warrior 2400 screen that debuted at Bauma and two Powerscreen Pegson mobile crushers, the new XA750 jaw crusher and the 1500 Maxtrak.

Blue Group will also showcase the conveying systems produced by Telestack International as well as a next generation Doppstadt 3060 Bio Power shredding plant and new a Matec filter press for dewatering applications.

McCloskey International will have three machines on static display, the C50 JAW crusher, C44 Cone crusher, and a S190 3 Deck screener. In addition, the company will showcase its new I54 impact crusher in the demonstration area.

Newcomer Iona Waste Systems will launch its Airtrac 3200S for processing waste fines. According to managing director Hubert Watson, "We have partnered with Westeria in Germany for the air separator and Hein Lehmann in Germany for the flip flop screen, a screen that's flexed and relaxed 60 times per second changing the shape of the apertures in the screen to allow fines to break adhesion and fall through.

"The unique part is combining the two units together in one track-mounted unit to clean fines and thus add value to product and reduce landfill," he said.

Pride of place on the Metso Minerals stand will be the company's LT110C jaw crusher, intended for primary crushing applications. The machine can be set up with one of two feed options and its compact design allows for easy transportation between locations.

Mogensen Raw Materials Handling will present three machines at the show in the shape of the Type SRS: 1700/1000, a 1 m wide, open, single deck vibratory screen, which offers a cost effective option during light screening duties.

It will be joined by a Type C1544 featuring a 1.5 m four deck enclosed screen for high accuracy multiple separation and a Type TRH 1360 2570 vibratory feeder that is powered by an Invicta hydraulic vibrator. The latter is designed for use in both static and mobile plants where there is no electrical supply.

Rubble Master has been concentrating on the development of its Go! concept, which is aimed at making operation of its compact equipment as simple and intuitive as possible. The 'Go!' concept is based on providing a crusher that is quick to set up and easy to operate via a simple to use operator interface so that someone with little specialist knowledge can still produce high quality output.

At Hillhead the company will demonstrate its RM70 Go which offers a throughput of up to 120 tonnes per hour.

Sandvik will use Hillhead to introduce its Basic Series of breakers to the UK, but the star on the stand will be the QE440 mobile screen. According to the company, this new unit has been developed to cater for the serious aggregate producer and offers a +40% greater screening area than the company's earlier QE340 model.

Tesab will show two new products at Hillhead. The first is a new double deck 6 m x 1,5 m tracked screen that completes the company's range of equipment. It will be joined by a 1012TR closed circuit recycling impactor. Tesab will also show an updated version of its 623CT impactor. Meanwhile, from the Trackstack range will be a 8042T tracked conveyor.

Two Tesab units will also be running in the demonstration area - an updated 10570 jaw crusher and the 1412T belt fed impactor that together will run in a high volume, low cost chip production circuit.

Eriez Magnetic Europe will present its latest technology for metal removal, detection and sampling. On show will be a self cleaning version of its CP Model suspended permanent magnet, which the company says is robust, requires minimal maintenance, is simple to install and operate and is very versatile. In addition, Eriez will display a cross Belt Sampler and a Metalarm 3000 Metal Detector.

Construction

Case will exhibit its CX210 MH material handler, a product from its Case Special Excavators division. This machine is equipped with a 6,8 m main boom and a 4,8 m straight arm that give the 26 tonne machine a forward reach of 11,3 m at the top pin.

It will be joined by the larger CX240BMH materials handler that was introduced last year. Other Case machines on show will include wheeled loading shovels and loaders, and tracked excavators.

Following its launch at Bauma, Wirtgen will exhibit its new twin-engine W210 cold milling machine offering fuel savings of up to -25%. Capable of milling to depths of 330 mm, the 28 tonne machine features simplified controls and an isolated operator platform to reduce vibrations.

Also on the Wirtgen Group stand will be a 9 tonne Hamm HD90+ tandem roller, a Hamm GRW 280 pneumatic tyred roller and a range of small tandem rollers. Vogele will be represented by a 1803-2 paver as well as smaller wheeled and tracked pavers while Kleemann will show its new MC110Z jaw crusher.

JCB will show its JS260XD (Extra Duty) tracked excavator that has been developed specifically for demolition activities. It features strengthened boom and dippers, rugged undercarriage guarding and covers, side rail protection systems and falling object protective structure (FOPS) guards for the cab. Other JCB machines on show will include models from the Wastemaster range.

New Holland will present its E215B tracked excavator, which will feature specially designed protection and cab guards, software for demolition operations and safety systems for swing control and stability. Waste handling equipment will include the L185 skid steer and the W270B wheeled loader, while pride of place on the stand goes to the E265B excavator that features heavy duty booms and extra strong undercarriage for heavy construction work.

Volvo's display will see one of the first appearances in the UK of its EC460LC high reach demolition excavator that was formally launched at Bauma in April. In addition, a representative sample of the company's full range of construction equipment will be on show, including an AGB6870 paver, an MW500 milling machine and a SD130 single drum roller for soil compaction.

Volvo will also show its new range of FMX on-road trucks for construction applications.

Bell will showcase its E-Series of wheeled loaders as well as its new range of Mk VI D-Series articulated dump trucks (ADTs). On show will be the B30D, B40D and flagship 50-tonne B50D, all featuring upgrades to the engine and cab units.

Alongside equipment, Bell will use the show to launch 'Bell Assure', a programme designed to cover financing, optional extras, used-equipment and after sales service as well as set-out measurable and guaranteed levels of service for customers.

Liebherr will take its regular position at the show by the north face of the quarry to show its modular Mobilmix concrete mixing plant with a capacity of 100 m³ of concrete per hour. Also on show will be concrete truck mixers based on Mercedes Axor and Actros chassis. The HTM 704P features a capacity of 7 m³ while the HTM 804P increases this to 8 m³.

RUD-Erlau returns to Hillhead to exhibit its new tyre chains. Since the last show, the company has introduced its Terraplus chain, which offers superior traction for use in mines and quarries. Equipped with 'studs' for extra bite, the light-weight, energy saving chain is suitable for haul trucks operating in frozen conditions right through to soft, clay environments.

Stage IIIB compliant engines will be on show from both Scania and Cummins. Scania will show its 9, 13 and 16 litre engines featuring extra high pressure (XPI) fuel injection and selective catalytic reduction to reduce nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions, while Cummins will show its full range of engines from 6,7 to 15 litres featuring high pressure fuel injection, cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to reduce NOx and diesel particulate filters (DPFs) to trap particulate matter (PM).

RDS will show its range of on-board weighing instruments including the Loadmaster i range for wheeled loaders and the Loadlog 500+ for small and skid-steer loaders.

Spillard will launch its range of safe step retractable access steps, which will be installed on an excavator at the show. Also on show will be the company's VCAS360 360⁰ proximity detection system.

In Touch will show its lone worker alert system for use in quarrying applications. The 'bolt-on' feature for existing radio systems emits a continuous tone every 20 minutes and should a worker not cancel the tone the radio automatically sends a pre-recorded message to up to four pre-programmed numbers to alert recipients of a non-response. While the system is not suited to absolute emergencies it does reduce the health and safety risks associated with working alone.
