And with the event returning to Europe (Vienna, Austria, 16-17 November) as an in-person event for the first time in four years, it is two European speakers who we are welcoming to the WDS platform – and both presentations will reflect the changing face of demolition.

Sanna Lepistö is quality and environmental manager of Finnish company Engineering Lepistö. She will present on the importance of being aware of geotechnical and environmental challenges at the outset of a demolition project.

“Combining all the basics before the project starts can lower the risks of a slow project or hold-ups during the work,” said Sanna.

Wayne Bagnall is a director of the United Kingdom-based consultancy, Wayne Bagnall Consulting.

His presentation is on the problems for the demolition industry arising from the historical use of asbestos spacer blocks in during the 1960s and 1970s.

“Many of these older buildings are now being demolished or remodelled where these spacer blocks, we must all be on the lookout for these asbestos spacers and undertake analysis to confirm if they contain typically white asbestos,” Wayne told D&Ri.

The World Demolition Summit is organised by D&Ri in co-operation with the European Demolition Association and the US National Demolition Association.

The headline sponsor is Volvo Construction Equipment.

We will be announcing more speakers during the coming weeks, so please stay in touch with the D&Ri and WDS e-newsletters, the September-October 2022 print and digital issues of D&Ri, and the WDS website at www.demolitionsummit.com
