EIMA 2024: Cummins shows H2-ICE to agriculture industry

Cummins Inc. will showcase its B6.7H hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2-ICE) for the first time at EIMA International, Nov. 6-10 in Bologna, Italy. Rated at 216 kW (290 hp) and 1,200 Nm peak torque, Cummins said the B6.7H provides diesel-like performance using zero-carbon hydrogen fuel.

The engine offers similarity with the current diesel application to reduce integration complexity, Cummins stated. High parts commonality supports optimized parts procurement strategies for operators running mixed fuel fleets, it added.

According to the company, showcasing the B6.7H at EIMA is meant to demonstrate the company’s ability to provide agriculture OEMs with sustainable power options for all duty cycles and its ability to support customers’ decarbonization strategies. The H2-ICE technology is also available in a larger displacement version, the X15H, with power ratings from 298 to 395 kW (400 to 530 hp) and peak torque of 2,600 Nm.

Also on display in the EIMA stand will be the F4.5 Structural and L9 Harvest engines.

Cummins said the F4.5 Structural engine has been specifically designed to offer a compact, four-cylinder option for small- to medium-sized general-purpose tractors in the 120- to 160-hp (90 to 120 kW) power band. It incorporates a structural cylinder block, oil pan and gear housing along with DOC/DPF mounting flexibility.

The L9 Harvest engine builds on Cummins’ L9 Stage V platform, while adding a larger VGT turbocharger and a reinforced exhaust manifold that make it specially optimized for combine harvesters, which operate at higher rpms than other agricultural equipment. The company said the upgrades improve the engine’s responsiveness to heavy loads while delivering better fuel economy.
