Bauma 2025: HD Hyundai HW155H is finalist for Innovation Award

HD Hyundai Construction Equipment has reported that its HW155H hydrogen-powered wheeled excavator concept has been nominated for a Bauma 2025 Innovation Award in the Climate Protection category.

The excavator was recognised for its potential to reduce engine emissions and deliver carbon reductions on construction sites.

Power on the HW155H is delivered using hydrogen fuel cells. These send electrical energy to the onboard battery packs to power the machine. The output is said to be similar to that of a conventional diesel excavator.

HD Hyundai has been exploring a range of zero-emission technologies across its construction and industrial machinery portfolios; the HW155H is one of the machines and operating solutions which will feature at the world’s largest construction machinery trade show in Munich, Germany.

In addition to the prototypes, HD Hyundai will further show a range of energy storage and refuelling solutions jointly developed with Hyundai Motor Company. These will help to support the use of hydrogen across infrastructure and building projects.

The tech will include the company’s low-pressure, high-density sold state systems which is reported to double the capacity of a conventional tank, all at a ‘considerably lower filling pressure’. This will help optimise space on the machine, while reducing filling times and improving site safety.
