Develon, formerly Doosan Construction Equipment, has showcased a new pre-production wheel loader model designed specifically for the waste handling industry.
The prototype model, which was unveiled at the recent Resource & Waste Management (RWM) show in the United Kingdom, is based on the existing DL280-7 wheel loader and aims to enhance safety and operational efficiency in waste management.
It features a redesigned lightweight frame and a lifting arm that provides increased reach and higher dump heights, while maintaining manoeuvrability.
Develon noted that the new design focuses on providing operators with super high lift and reach capability for better handling of high-sided containers such as walking floor trailers.
In addition to the high lift and reach, the loader is equipped with a high-tip bucket supported by dual cylinders for improved stability.
The design also includes internal greasing lines for bucket pivot pins, which help prevent damage from carried materials.
The waste kit is said to further enhance the machine’s durability, with added protections such as mesh windshield guards, articulation guards, belly protection, and solid tyres with suspension cut-outs.
Safety is also a core element of the new loader and these features include high-visibility chevrons, a fire suppression system, and an optional 360-degree camera system with AI-powered person detection.
Inside the cab, operators benefit from an ergonomic design, joystick controls, and an upgraded seat with adjustable suspension and heating. There’s also an 8-inch touchscreen displaying critical information, such as a weighing system feed, HVAC controls, and Bluetooth connectivity.
The machine benefits from large windows to minimise blind spots, with buyers also able to add optional electrically adjustable rearview mirrors. Full LED working lights, with an automatic strobe function during reversing, are also included to further enhance pedestrian safety.
The loader’s cab has also been designed to increase operator comfort and productivity. According to the OEM, legroom, air conditioning, and storage space have all been improved.
