Beirut Mall
02 May 2008
A Volvo EC290 excavator has been working against the clock to excavate 130000 m3 of material at the site of a bombed-out chocolate factory ahead of its re-development into a new shopping mall.
The site has been derelict for more than 15 years and following demolition of the building, the excavation team moved in to reduce levels down by 18 m (59) in preparation for the new 50000 m2 (540000 ft2) shopping mall.
The mall is scheduled for completion in 2006 at a cost US$ 15 million.
