Products from both the Erkat and Epiroc brands – Erkat was incorporated into Epiroc in 2017 – will be made at the site, with drum cutting technology being marketed as a key area for future development.

“We have a unique opportunity to expand our portfolio and help shape the future of Epiroc with our strong team,” said Erkat general manager Martina Schierholz.

The new facility is close to Erkat’s previous site and Martina says this is a deliberate decision.

“The power and agility of our team is an important location factor, so moving to another country was out of the question. Our location for product made in Germany is and will remain in Thuringia.”

Torsten Ahr, vice president marketing for hydraulic attachments at Epiroc, is similarly upbeat.

He said: “Erkat’s drum cutting technology will play an important role in Epiroc’s future.

“At the new site, we want to further optimise our production and continuously work on improving our portfolio. And we want to develop new products that are tailored precisely to the future challenges of our customers.”

Erkat manufactures robust special units for excavators and skid-steer loaders, and will show its VC 2000 cutter at the ConExpo exhibition in Las Vegas, USA next month.
