Wacker Neuson breaks ground on logistics centre
26 July 2021
The Wacker Neuson Group is building a new logistics centre, while continuing its move towards 100 % paperless operations.
The new centre is located at the company’s Reichertshofen site, Wacker Neuson Group’s global centre for compaction technology, where vibration plates and rammers for soil and asphalt compaction are developed and manufactured, including battery rammers and cordless plates.
Also manufactured are internal vibrators, external vibrators, converters for the concrete technology sector and demolition hammers.
Helmut Bauer, Managing Director of Wacker Neuson Produktion GmbH &Co.KG, said the construction of the centre marked the next step in the company’s strategy to focus its entire process chain at one hub.
“We started on this journey back in 2017 when we relocated the research and development department for light equipment from Munich to Reichertshofen.
“Now, the entire process chain will be based here – from development through production to delivery to customers. This concentration gives us greater speed and agility. At the same time, we will be reducing our carbon footprint by cutting the distance our products have to travel.”
Covering 10,000 square metres, the centre includes a 12 metre high hall for shelves, picking areas and offices, as well as a fully automated high-bay warehouse. 18 docking points for trucks will be included to ensure the rapid transport of construction equipment.
Stefan Pfetsch, Managing Director of Wacker Neuson Produktion GmbH & Co. KG said:“
By the time our logistics centre opens its doors in around a year, we will have fundamentally modernised our logistics processes.”
“In future, all of our workflows will be software-driven with zero paper trail.
“Combined with our fully automated high-bay warehouse, this will significantly reduce turnaround times, enabling us to deliver products to our customers even more rapidly.”
On July 20, the ground was broken at the site by a group including Stefan Pfetsch, Managing Director of Wacker Neuson Produktion GmbH & Co. KG, Johannes Hofner, Member of the Board of Management of the Pfaffenhofen District Economic Development Agency, Michael Franken, Mayor of Reichertshofen.
The new logistics centre is planned for completion in summer 2022.
