The construction industry is increasingly facing skills shortages and talent acquisition is becoming more challenging across the industry. In essence the problem is the shortage of people with the appropriate skillsets for an industry responding to environmental and technological change.

A much-publicised ageing workforce is a major concern and is expected to have an increasing impact in the next five to ten years, despite the benefits of technology and automation. Attracting and – crucially – retaining talent has taken on added significance, with candidates having different expectations and aspirations post-Covid and work-life balance, along with training and non-pay benefits, assuming greater importance for potential recruits.
