The project is moving from the development phase to implantation phase, said Peab.

Bodø is located in Nordland county in the Northern Norway region. The municipality has a population of just more than 50,000.

An airport or base has existed in the area since 1921, but civilian travel from Bodø wasn’t started until 1990. The New Bodø Airport will represent the first major renovation in more than three decades.

“This is a historic agreement and the largest Peab has received in Norway,” said Johan Hansson, president of Peab civil engineering in Norway.

“As a local community builder, it is important for us to be able to contribute to employment in the region. This is a complex project that requires good coordination and cooperation between all the actors involved.”

Working for client Avinor – Norway’s state-owned airport operator – Peab’s role includes construction of a new runway, taxiways, and parking spaces for aircraft.

“Preparatory work has already been carried out in the area, such as the removal of vegetation, the demolition of old infrastructure and blasting,” said Peab.

Construction is to begin immediately with completion expected in June 2028.
